in defence of robby

yay raptors! it's about time we got rid of that know-nothing pretentious sorry excuse for a general manager! Now we can back on the road towards nba credibility! yayyyyyy!

couple problems i have with the firing. First, arguably the main reasons why he was canned was becuz of past mistakes: the VC trade and drafting Hoffa. If you wanted to can your GM because of these two moves alone, fine, but wouldn't it have made sense to see his termination a lot sooner, say about a year ago when Vince was packing his bags in exchange for picks and scrubs? Why wait till now to pull the trigger. If we look at this past season we can see a lot of corrections/good moves that Robby made:

1) traded Skip to my Lou for Mike Jones...er James. No argument of who won that trade

2) drafted promising rooks in Charlie Vanilla, Joey Graham, 2 Euro boys who we'll see next year maybe and signed Jose Calderon. None of these moves are considered bad

3) brought back Matt Bonner on a small 2 year contract: This one is a toss up

yeah yeah? so yeah his most recent moves of this season have looked decent and shows that maybe Robby can turn the corner and turn out to be a decent GM. Too bad we won't get to see what he can do. But this all makes things very interesting for the next GM to call toronto home. Whoever this mystery man is is going to inherit a pretty decent looking franchise jam packed with potential-budding youth, a lot of cap wiggle room next year as Jalen comes off the books among others to make some trades and signings, and a budding superstar in Chris Bosh to build around. If you ask me that's a dream job. Never mind the losing right now cause that's bound to happen with a young team, and may i remind u that we are very young but there have been glimpses of things to come with our most recent win streak. So whoever's going to be our next GM is going to get lotsa love from fans and media cause he's walking into a potential goldmine. Kinda like how JP Ricciardi inherited a real good base of young talent from Gord Ash when he took the helm of the Bluejays.

So friends, don't hate Robby. He's done some good. He's drafted well (with the exception of Hoffa). He's cleared cap. He paved the way for the future. And now we robbed him of his baby. Shame on us raptors fans. Shame on us.

i still think rob had the right vision but went bout it in the wrong way.

to think of the gm who will come in will have a fun time though. me playing live 06 doing the dynasty mode, after 2 years james off the books, so is jalen, i waived any williams knuckleheads left on teh team and i had bout $30 mil of free cap space. i go and sign emeka okafor and jr smith. with cap space left. only if it was as easy as that.

    yo.

    babcock sucked.

n i was jus gonna make a pun on his name.. but i thought better of it since this blog should more likely be censored due to innocent viewers.

all his moves coulda been better done. So tons of room for inprovement. Remember when we were watching that game on tv and calderon/villeunova were like.. fantasy disasters?
    yeh..

    strike 5 there.

    ez

i really hate the culture of sports now... which sadly is like the culture of marriage in north america and the culture of business and progess... if you make a mistake don't give up on the guy. Like jordan said, the man had a vision but i think we really needed to wait and see it happen. It's only been what... a year and a half. When he was hired he a had a long term plan that he was preaching.

remember when people played for the "love of the game"?

cuz i sure don't. maybe the only ones really playing for the love of the game is the wnba players where the players cap is like i dunno maybe $125 G's per player per year (i can't remember i saw it once somewhere) and team salary cap is something like 300Gs. im sure the $49 million dollar reliever for the (black)jays (is the team) is playing for the "love of the game".

i remember back when the whole mlb strike was gonna happen a-rod was like "id cut my salary like 10%" or something along those lines to avoid the strike. then a reporter asked him "ok go cut ur salary then" and a-rod was like "i was figuartively speaking" or something along those lines.

and yes sports is a fusion of game and business. where the game is saying "win win win" and the business is saying "money money money". combine the 2 and u get...
oh crap i gotta go to class. maybe i'll finish this thought later
